Neville Knight's Notes...
There was an interesting display of the Manchester Horse Tram at Heaton
Park on 14th June 2009. The tram is L53 and it was "double headed" with
two Shire Horses, "Ben" and "Jake". I understand the prefix 'L'
indicated the depot where the tram was originally kept (Levenshulme). I
have it on good faith that it is intended to be run again on 28th March
2010, possibly with the two horses. Enquiries at the time indicated that
these horses are used on Weddings and Funerals! Rides on this historic
tram was 1 last year.
Some half hour editions of "Great British Railway Journeys" are being put
out in the very early hours of the mornings at random times on BBC1/2
New Manchester Metrolink Trams 3101/2 have been seen on occasional service
runs. The ends are bright yellow and sides grey - more detail to follow.
Station name boards have been repainted in yellow on the Altrincham line.

Ralph Rawlinson's Railway Roundup
St Albans South Signalbox
The St Albans South Signal Box Preservation Trust has been rewarded with
a coveted Civic Society award for its work in restoring the listed
St Albans South Signal Box.
Waterloo International
The ORR has instructed Network Rail to carry out the necessary work to
make the five platforms at Waterloo International station available for
domestic services from December 2011.
Southend Airport
Work on building a new station for the airport on the Southend Victoria
line is on schedule for completion in July 2010.
Oxford
With just two through platforms and a north facing bay capacity is often
at a premium at Oxford station. Creation of a new south facing bay for
trains terminating from the south, planned to be operational by 2011,
should free up the through platforms for other services.
West Yorkshire
DfT approval is being sought for new stations at Kirkstall Forge and
Apperley Bridge, both on the electrified Leeds-Skipton line.
Dublin: Luas
Plans to extend the LUAS light rail system to Lucan, Bray and Broombridge
have been put on hold.
Turkey-Iraq
A new train service between Gaziantepand in Turkey and Mosul in Iraq was
due to begin on Saturday 16th January 2010.

It has now been revealed that the planned line linking Kuwait through
Saudi Arabia to Oman (Raildate 15th January 2010) will also continue south
